The podcasting assignment was designed to teach us not only how to use podcasting software and the different strategies one can use to create a successful podcast, but also how to use it in the classroom in the future. Using the Audacity software, I created a four-minute podcast, briefly introducing myself and then describing my teaching philosophy. I explain how teaching to me is more than simply hammering textbook and test-prep. information into students' heads; rather, it is about encouraging students to learn in the manner that is best suited to them, and also that not only is learning fun, but can be done throughout life. My goal as a teacher is to help my students understand this, and to seek out opportunities for the rest of their lives in which they can learn and grow. I think understanding how to use this technology is not only helpful in settings such as this, where someone may simply be looking to get a better understanding of me as a person and a teacher, but it can also be a very effective tool for teaching and learning. Students can be taught to use the software - it is very easy to understand - to create their own presentations; as well, assignments, lectures, and other such things can be posted on a class website or wiki, where students can visit and listen anytime they need to. It was fun creating this podcast, and I definitely think I will be using this software again! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
